Analytical Chemist V
Job Description
- Conduct complex, multi-instrument analyses on materials related to electrochemical energy storage, nanomaterials, catalysts, and other advanced materials, ensuring timely reporting of results to facilitate process improvements.
- Troubleshoot and perform routine maintenance of analytical instruments, including calibration and coordination with manufacturers for annual preventative maintenance. Develop and maintain safety plans for instrument-related work.
- Train users on the correct operation of selected analytical instruments, monitor adherence to proper procedures, and maintain detailed instrument usage logs.
- Write and periodically update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety documentation for instrument operations, incorporating new protocols or materials as needed.
Qualifications:
- Expertise in analytical techniques, including ICP-MS, ICP-OES, XRD, TGA/DSC, SEM-EDS, ion beam milling, and microwave sample digestion.
- Over 10 years of experience operating and maintaining modern analytical and materials characterization equipment in research settings focused on chemical synthesis.
- Strong oral and written communication skills for effective collaboration and reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel for communication, data analysis, and record-keeping.
- Demonstrated ability to work flexible schedules, including occasional overtime or weekends, based on programmatic needs.
