Job Summary: 
The Applied Materials Division, Process R&D and Scale up Group is seeking a recently graduated candidate for a Laboratory Assistant/Technician position to assist with projects related to synthesizing and processing powder materials at Argonne National Laboratory. The ideal candidate should have some hands-on experience in a basic chemistry lab with ability to use chemistry lab tools/equipment such as (vacuum filtration, pH measurement, sieving, box furnaces, calcination oven, and Magnetic stirrer). Due to the chemical and mechanical nature of the processes being worked on, the ideal candidate will need a background in either Inorganic Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. The candidate needs to be comfortable working with reactant solution preparation on a large scale (40L +) and be comfortable with waste handling & neutralization (titration method, pH measurement). There are some aspects of this role that are labor intensive, so the candidate must be physically able to lift 25lbs. Other responsibilities include powder and powder mixture preparation. 
The candidate can expect to research, develop, and operate equipment both on bench scale and on larger pilot scale equipment to develop, test, and demonstrate materials separation principles.  Some equipment will need to be assembled and thus, experience in using hand tools is important. 
Delivery of daily reports and data to the PI’s is expected.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Inorganic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related chemistry science with 0 to 1 year of experience.
  • Basic understanding of chemical solution preparation (e.g. dissolving metal salts in water, using top stirrers, or magnetic stirring)
  • Lab Experience with lab tools/equipment (vacuum filtration, pH measurement, sieving. Magnetic stirrers, pumps, ovens, box furnaces)
  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs.
