Job Summary:
- The Project Engineer is responsible for developing and optimizing plant and process layouts, managing machine design, and maintaining PDM systems. The role includes creating complex technical drawings, supporting R&D and capital projects, and ensuring compliance with safety and plant standards. This position requires proficiency in SolidWorks and a strong background in mechanical design and reverse engineering.
Job Duties:
- Develop and optimize plant and process layouts to improve production efficiency and safety.
- Design machines and components, reverse engineer parts, and create detailed drawings for fabrication.
- Manage and maintain the PDM site vault, including removing and archiving obsolete files, incorporating vendor drawings, and updating/revising plant layouts and documents.
- Adhere to plant standards for creating, storing, and organizing documents and drawings.
- Search the PDM vault for plant layouts, documents, schematics, and drawings to share with vendors and associates.
- Produce complex technical drawings, including P&IDs, process flow diagrams, 3D solid models, pipe routing drawings, and general schematics.
- Support the R&D team with technical knowledge throughout the new product development cycle, from prototype creation to final production equipment.
- Utilize cloud point data and field dimensions to create 3D models, dimensional drawings, concept layouts, documentation, installation, and “as-built drawings”.
- Reverse engineer components to achieve cost savings or refurbish old equipment.
- Support the safety team with traffic, emergency, and evacuation layouts to ensure a safe working environment.
- Design mechanical components and assemblies such as platforms, cleaning/storage carts, guards, and catwalks.
- Support process improvement efforts through innovative mechanical designs.
- Modify new and existing equipment to comply with local plant standards and improve performance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience in a project engineering role within the food manufacturing industry.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks with substantial experience in creating and managing 3D models.
- Strong understanding of PDM systems, with experience in setting up and managing a PDM vault.
- Proficiency in producing P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and other technical drawings.
- Experience in machine design, reverse engineering, and detailed drawing for fabrication.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on process improvement.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including R&D, safety, and production teams.
- Good communication skills to interact with vendors and associates effectively.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and business needs.
- Commitment to maintaining high safety and quality standards in all work processes.
