Title: Senior Engineering Manager
Location: Joliet, IL
Travel: 50%
Salary: $170k/yr-$180k/yr
MUST HAVE: Chemical/refinery experience; $10 million + in CapEx management

Sterling Engineering is currently looking for a Sr. Engineer Manager for a large customer we are partnered with in Joliet, IL.

Responsibilities:
  • Project Leadership & Management: Collaborate with leadership to ensure engineering supports growth plan through plant upgrades and new operations.
  • Oversee development and communication of annual furnace rebuild project plans.
  • Ensure project managers utilize effective principles like project charters and the FEL process.
  • Participate actively as part of the Americas Leadership Team.
  • Engineering Costs: Manage and control the annual Engineering budget.
  • Define, implement, and manage the annual budgeting process, aligning it with business goals.
  • Partner with VP of Manufacturing & Engineering and Finance to analyze costs and deliver forecasts.
  • Human Resource Management: Partner with HR on hiring, staffing, training, development, and performance management for the engineering team.
  • Capital Expenditure (CAPEX):Ensure effective management and progress of the Americas Capital program.
  • Collaborate with plants and Process Manufacturing Technology on key engineering projects using the FEL stage-gate process.
  • Quality & Safety: Ensure high-quality engineering work provides clarity for construction and installation.
  • Develop and implement a Quality program for achieving zero internal and external defects.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, M.S. degree preferred with 8+ years relevant experience in large capital projects. International experience is beneficial.
  • 10-15 years of experience in industrial chemicals and/or glass plants with experience in both engineering and operations.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in managing capital projects in the chemicals and/or glass industry following a Design/Bid/Build approach. Demonstrated ability to manage capital projects of up $30 MM - $50+ MM.
